Description: 

The Lesvos Library branch has been operating since 1986, along with the establishment of the Aegean University on Lesvos. It is housed in a three (3) storey building.
The ground floor serves as a reception area and houses the point of service for users (counter) where the book borrowing, returning and reserving services are provided. On the same floor, the collection of old issues of printed journals are is on display.
Moreover, on the ground floor there is one (1) workstation, as well as storing cabinets where users can place their store personal belongings on entering the branch. The branch material cataloguing and processing offices are also on this floor.
On the first floor of the building there are: part of the book collection (Dewey classification categories 000 to 599) and the Gray literature printed collection, i.e. undergraduate, master’s and doctoral theses, completed at and submitted by the University Departments located on Lesvos. Moreover, there are: four (4) user terminals for searching and a photocopier.
The second floor houses the rest of the book collection (Dewey classification categories 600 to 999), the collection of digital materials, the stands with the current issues of scientific journals and the reading room of the Library.
There is a forty (40)-user seating capacity and two (2) user terminals for searching; in addition, there is a room with audiovisual projection equipment.
The Library collection consists of 36,850 titles and 73 subscriptions for printed scientific journals related to the areas of interest of the University Faculties and Departments located on Lesvos.
Furthermore, it has a collection of the Gray literature completed at by the University Departments located on Lesvos, the collection of textbooks distributed to students of the Departments located on Lesvos (through the EUDOXUS programme under the auspices of the Ministry of Education) and other special collections, such as reference material (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, guides), faculty course notes, videos, maps, etc.
The Library is organized according to the international classification and cataloguing standards. More specifically, the Library materials are organized using the Dewey Decimal Classification System, the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2 (AACR2) and the Library of Congress Subject Headings. The authority control is based on the Library of Congress Name Authorities and the Catalogue of Name Authorities of the National Library of Greece.
Searching can be conducted in both the local collection and the unified catalogue of the six (6) regional Library Branches of the University of the Aegean. The Branch also provides access to a large number of databases and journals.
The collection covers the areas of interest of the Lesvos University Departments, including a large number of titles of general interest. The Lesvos Library branch covers mainly the following topics (subjects):

The main purpose of the Lesvos Library Branch is to provide resources for the educational, academic and informational needs of the members of the academic community (undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty teachers, researchers and administrative staff). The Branch is also open to residents of the island and visitors in general.
